Portland–The NBA Portland Trail Blazers kicked off a 40th celebration that ended with a charity gala–Hoops and Heart, where every dollar raised benefitted the Portland Community. Donors included Martell Webster’s MW 23 Foundation, Brandon Roy, and Nate McMillan. MW 23 Foundation was created in 2009 by Martell Webster, #23, lead shooting guard for the Portland Trail Blazers. The foundation was created to help low-income youth and families. The goal is to help eliminate academic barriers that hinder low income youth from graduating from high school in the Pacific Northwest.
The MW23 Foundation will collaborate with other non-profit organizations to provide basic needs, to enhance academic support, and to offer athletic opportunities for youth and families to increase the high school graduation rate.
The Portland Trail Blazers believe life is more than a game, which is the reason we work as passionately in the community as we do on the court. The Make it Better Fund, established in partnership with the Oregon Community Foundation, brings the team together with our fans to make life-changing assists that directly impact the lives of children in Oregon and southwest Washington where they live, learn and play. The Hoops and Heart celebration also recognized the past 40 years of the only professional sport in the city of Roses. Legendary players included Bill Walton, Terry Porter, Brian Grant, Michael Harper, Steve Johnson, and Maurice Lucas.
The celebrity fashion show will kick off the series of designer shows during NYC’s elite Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. It will be held at the Sony Atrium off of 5th Avenue. Some of the participating designers: Maria Pinto, Sam Roloff, MaxMara, Nicole Miller, Tibi, Tulle, Miss Sixty, Nanette Lepore, Elie Tahari, Lauren Conrad Collection, and L.A.M.B..
